SPAN 2005. Intermediate Spanish for Heritage Speakers. 3 cr. hrs. Helps students who speak or hear Spanish at home develop confidence reading, writing, listening, and speaking Spanish as they prepare for courses at the advanced level. Emphasis on honing oral communications skills and developing the Spanish range to include formal registers. Course materials will focus on issues concerning language and identity in the Hispanic world. Prerq: placement exam or cons. of dept. ch. Cannot receive credit for SPAN 2001, 2002 or 2003, and SPAN 2005.

SPAN 3005. Advanced Communication in Spanish for Heritage Speakers. 3 cr. hrs. Focusses on activities and strategies aimed at improving research, writing, presentational skills, grammar accuracy, spelling, and vocabulary at a professional or academic level. Development of linguistic, sociolinguistic, strategic and discourse competence via cultural activities focused on the cultural diversity of the Hispanic world and on social, political, and educational issues affecting US Latinx communities. Prereq: placement exam; or cons. of dept. ch.
SPAN 3505. Introduction to Literary Analysis in Spanish for Heritage and Native Speakers. 3 cr. hrs. Acquaints heritage and native speakers of Spanish with basic literary concepts, the characteristics of different literary genres, and representative authors in the Hispanic world, including Latinx writers in the U.S. Prereq: SPAN 3005; or cons. of dept. ch.
