Placement Credits and Eligibility Requirements
-
Placement Credit in Foreign Languages
-
Eligibility Requirements
-
A student placed in an Intensive Intermediate course, 2003 in French, German or Spanish, and who completes the course with a grade of B or better, may be eligible for three hours of placement credit.
-
A student placed in French, German Spanish 3001 or Spanish 3005, and who completes the course with a grade of B or better, may be eligible for six hours of placement credit.
-
Placement credits are awarded in addition to the credits earned in the course. The grade awarded for the placement credit will be an S (Satisfactory) which will be noted on the student鈥檚 transcript. These credits will only count toward the total hours needed for graduation from Marquette, and cannot be used toward the completion of a major or minor in the language. If the student is awarded the placement credits, they will be noted on his or her transcript at the end of the semester after the course was completed.
-
Course 2003 = 3 placement credits in addition to the 4 credits earned in the course
-
Course 3001 or Spanish 3005 = 6 placement credits in addition to the 3 credits earned in the course
-
The student must have earned the high school credits for the language in question from a U.S. high school.
-
The student may not be a native speaker who attended high school in a Spanish-speaking country, nor have resided in a country where the language is spoken for more than six months.
-
The student may not have college credit in the language (including Advanced Placement (AP) credit, credit by examination, or transfer credit from another institution).
-
The student may not have previously audited a college course in the language or enrolled in, and then withdrawn from, a course in the language after the third week of the term.
-
This must be the first language course taken at Marquette.
