Getting started with your application process

Thank you for your interest in applying to ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Graduate School of Management! Please read these general instructions prior to starting an application. If you need assistance completing the online application, please contact the Graduate School of Management at (414) 288-7145.

Your application will be considered complete and ready for review when all three of these steps below have been completed.

Be sure to review the web page for the program of interest for any GPA, experience, or other requirements.

Step 1: Start Your Online Application

Students interested in applying for an Inter-University exchange program through UWM, MCW or the Midwest Catholic Schools Consortium should make note of any additional steps

Step 2: Submit the $50 application fee

You will be prompted to pay the $50 application fee by credit card after clicking 'Submit Online Form' on the online application. Application fees will be waived for current ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵstudents and alumni, McNair Scholars, Trinity Fellowship applicants, and for attendees of our online info sessions or other on-campus open house or visit events.

Step 3: Submit all documentation 

  1. Unofficial transcripts, essays, resumes, etc. can be uploaded from your Student Status page after clicking 'Submit Online Form.' You can track the receipt of these items and your application status from the Student Status page.

  3. Expect to receive a weekly reminder email about the materials that you still need to submit before the application deadline.

Supporting documentation

Attach the appropriate supporting documents to your online application:

  • All programs require a resume or CV
  • All programs require essay questions submitted through the application
  • Two letters of recommendation are required for the Executive MBA and MS in Applied Economics as well as students that are applying for financial aid. Letters of recommendation are optional for all other programs.

We will also accept these documents emailed to gradadmit@marquette.edu after your application has been submitted online.

Domestic Transcripts

You must list in the application and submit copies of transcripts for all colleges or universities in the United States that you have attended, whether you received a degree or transferred the credits from the school.

If admitted, final official transcripts should be sent to the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Graduate School directly from your previous institution. Transcripts that pass through the applicant's hands will not be considered official, and neither will transcripts stamped "Issued to Student." If an institution distributes transcripts electronically, please have them send the transcript to gradadmit@marquette.edu.

International Transcripts

ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Graduate School requires that all international (non-U.S.) transcripts/academic records be evaluated by a transcript evaluation service with (examples listed below). You must list in the application all colleges or universities that you have attended, whether you received a degree or transferred the credits from the school. 

  • – Course-by-Course evaluation is required.
  • – Course-by-Course evaluation is required.
  • – Course-by-Course evaluation is required.
  • – Course Analysis Evaluation is required.
  • – Course-by-Course evaluation is required.

If admitted, final official transcript evaluations must be sent to the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Graduate School directly from the transcript evaluation service used for your course-by-course evaluation.

Test Scores

GMAT / GRE requirements are outlined for each academic program within the GMAT / GRE Policy website.  In brief:

  • The GMAT or GRE is not required for certificate applications or the MA in Corporate Communications.
  • Applicants with an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.000 or better as well as applicants who have earned a terminal degree (i.e., PhD, MD, JD, DDS) or have earned a Masters degree in a quantitative field (i.e., Engineering, Finance) are not required to submit a GMAT/GRE score unless specifically requested by a Program Director.
  • A GMAT or GRE score is required for applicants with a cumulative GPA below 3.00 or based on the program-specific details outlined within the GMAT / GRE Policy website.

Letters of recommendation

Executive MBA, MS in Applied Economics and students applying for financial aid require two letters of recommendation.  They are optional for all other programs.

  • We strongly encourage you to use the online system available as part of the online application. Indicate on your application who your recommenders will be and send them an invitation through the online application. Your recommenders will receive instructions to upload their recommendation electronically.

  • Letters should be submitted by those who can best speak to your past academic record and potential for future success as a graduate student. Ideally, at least some of these letters will be written by professors. Letters from employers and other relevant references are also acceptable.

Application Deadlines

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with deadlines for upcoming semesters listed below.  Within programs for which merit-based financial aid is available, applying by Feb. 15 for the fall semester and by Nov. 15 for the spring semester is encouraged.

Spring 2025: apply by Jan. 6
Summer 2025: apply by May 5
Fall 2025: apply by Aug. 14

International students should apply by the following deadlines due to the need to allow enough time to secure proper visa requirements. The application and all materials must be received by these dates.  Students are notified as soon as a decision is made.

To begin studies in the fall semester: apply by May 1
To begin studies in the spring semester: apply by October 1

International Application Procedures and Visa Information

Visa & Eligibility Requirements

Most nonimmigrant students enter the United States with the legal status of an F-1 (student) visa and continue in that status throughout their period of study. To apply for an F-1 visa, a student needs a government document called a Certificate of Eligibility, or Form I-20, that is issued to the student by the university that the student will attend. A university must receive government permission to issue these I-20 forms.

Form I-20 & Verification

Before issuing an I-20, a university is required by law to verify that prospective students have:

  1. Academic ability
  2. English language proficiency
  3. Financial support for the intended program of study.

ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ issues an I-20 for a prospective F-1 student after the student has been accepted for studies and has provided evidence of full financial support for the expenses of living and studying here for the proposed period of time.

Financial Verification and Visa Regulations

Upon acceptance to the Graduate School of Management F-1 students will be emailed the necessary financial verification and advance deposit amounts.  F-1 students must adequately document their financial resources for the duration of the academic program before a visa will be issued. Financial verification, in the form of an appropriate sponsorship statement and an advanced deposit (in U.S. currency) equal to the amount of the first term's tuition, must be sent to ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵbefore the certificate of eligibility for a visa will be issued.   For further information on the current financial verification requirements and sponsorship statement requirements please contact the Graduate School of Management at GSM@Marquette.edu. The premium for the first term of health and repatriation insurance, required of all F-1 and J-1 students, will be deducted from the advance deposit. All but $500 is refundable if the student chooses not to attend Marquette. Students must be prepared to pay any remaining balance of the first term's tuition when they arrive on campus. The advance deposit will be waived if the student receives a scholarship or other academic award that covers the cost of the first term's tuition.  We will send the I-20 as soon as we receive the required deposit and acceptable financial verification form.

International applicants must submit a TOEFL score or other acceptable proof.

For TOEFL score submissions, please use the Designated Institution (DI) code 1448.

Financing Your Degree

Tuition Reimbursement: For information regarding corporate tuition reimbursement you will need to contact your individual company as tuition reimbursement policies vary from company to company. The best place to start is usually your Human Resources Department. We invoice students directly for tuition and they negotiate tuition reimbursement with their firm.
