Efforts

At the start of the 2020-2021 academic year, Student Affairs published a Statement on Black Lives and committed to advancing antiracism in our various spaces across campus. Work toward the items we outlined in the statement is overviewed below. This work is ongoing.

Academic Year 2021-2022

  • Antiracism is part of our structure and expectations. We ask for regular updates from units on what they are doing in terms of DEI/antiracism work.
  • Student Affairs formed a group for employees with partners across campus to critically examine whiteness.
  • Reports from space audit were shared with participating offices for review/action in late July, 2021. View the overview report.
  • Antiracism Working Group is developing an instrument to evaluate practices, procedures, and policies through the lens of DEI/antiracism.
  • A website with antiracism efforts and resources was developed in summer 2021.
  • A DEI in-service was held on November 15, 2021 with Rasheed Ali Cromwell from the Harbor Institute, who facilitated further discussion on the Brave and Bold Dialogues student DEI training that was rolled out this year.
  • Staff was invited to participate in the AJCU's Spiritual Work of Racial Justice - Reading Group, January–April 2022.

Student Affairs book read: How to be an Antiracist (Kendi, 2019)

  • 46 participants

March 2021
Antiracism Working Group was formed.

  • Group meets regularly to identify and discuss antiracism efforts.
  • Group conducted an audit of Students Affairs' physical spaces and websites as well as of some additional student-facing spaces (April–June, 2021)
