2007

  • College of Nursing receives federal funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)-Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) and establishes Project-BEYOND

2011

  • College of Nursing receives federal funding from the HRSA-Nursing, Education, Practice, Quality and Retention to continue Project-BEYOND 

2012

  • College of Nursing introduces “Culture and Health” course focusing on the relationship of health care behaviors and beliefs to culture and social structure and fostering appreciation for intercultural competence as a BSN program requirement

2015

  • College of Nursing establishes the College of Nursing Diversity Committee
  • College of Nursing receives federal funding from HRSA-NWD to continue Project BEYOND-2

2016

  • տƵ’s Student Veterans Association, Veteran Affairs Nursing Academic Partnership, and Zablocki VA Medical Center co-host forum on veteran care 

2017

  • College of Nursing receives federal funding from HRSA-NWD to continue Project BEYOND-2 and federal funding from HRSA-Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students to provide scholarship for eligible students in Project BEYOND-2
  • Dr. Juanita (Terrie) Garcia, nursing leader and Project BEYOND-2 Coordinator, selected by American Association of Colleges of Nursing to address members of Congress

  • College of Nursing issues ‘College of Nursing Diversity & Inclusion Statement
  • College of Nursing issues ‘Statement of Solidarity – Nurses Against Injustice’
  • College of Nursing Staff and Faculty attend AACN Inaugural Diversity Symposium Virtual Conference
  • College of Nursing launches Black & African American Faculty, Staff, and Student monthly virtual chat sessions

2021

  • College of Nursing receives federal funding from HRSA-Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students to provide scholarship for eligible students in Project BEYOND-2
  • College of Nursing to fuel scholarships, increase diversity, and drive innovative healthcare advances
  • տƵlaunches as an extension of a տƵ mural project to highlight and to uplift diverse women identified individuals whose images and contributions have been systematically made invisible
  • College of Nursing receives grant to
  • Dr. Juanita (Terrie) Garcia, Project BEYOND-2 coordinator, receives 2021 Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award
  • Vice President for Inclusive Excellence issues a
  • College of Nursing launches Hispanic & Latinx Faculty, Staff, and Student monthly virtual chat sessions while continuing Black & African American sessions for the second year
  •  College of Nursing pilots Faculty and Staff: Personal Skills for a Diverse Campus in addition to first-year student training Brave & Bold Dialogues: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – College Edition
  • College of Nursing partners with the LGBTQ Resource Center to offer Safer Spaces for faculty, staff, and students. Safer Spaces is a tiered, allyship-building initiative, with an aim for a campus culture of increased equity and pride
  • College of Nursing Office of Student Services offers screening of short film Racism: The African American Nursing Experience and post-screening discussion with film producer, Denetra Hampton

2022

  • College of Nursing launches MUCN Diversity Website which includes resources for faculty, staff, and students, updates on strategic initiatives focused on equity and inclusion, as well as recent milestones and contact information for engagement with the college community.
  • MUCN Office of Student Success partners with Marquette’s Center for Engagement & Inclusion on annual student-focused social justice workshops. 

2023

  • MUCN hosts Gathering of Diverse Nursing Community of Color for students, faculty, and staff. The event features leaders from the Milwaukee Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association and the Greater Milwaukee Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses.
