Alex Martins research focuses in bioethics and health equalities in global and public health. His scholarship has been interdisciplinary in which he has engaged in ethics, theology, and health care through a dialogue with anthropology, philosophy, epidemiology, and medical science, especially engaging with marginalized voices and addressing issues from the perspective of the poor. Currently, Alex is working on two main projects: Frist, he is working in a book project developing a participatory bioethics that advances bioethical approaches and priorities from the perspective of poor and historical marginalized communities. It is an interdisciplinary work grounded in reality and liberating methods developed by liberation theology and epistemological accounts from the global south. Second, it is a research project on the experiences of community-based practices led by community health workers from impoverished communities in Latin America, especially in Brazil. He is interested in how these grassroots initiatives have contributed to health care delivery and advocacy for systems that offer health care as a human right.
