Patient-Centered Care Philosophy
The ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ School of Dentistry patient care philosophy is consistent with the Ignatian principle of ‘Cura Personalis’ or care for the whole person. The School of Dentistry strives to provide high quality comprehensive dental care in a patient-centered environment. This means actively involving patients in their treatment planning and decision- making processes. Students and faculty display a respectful understanding of patient differences and values and make accommodations for patients to meet their treatment goals.
The School of Dentistry philosophy is aligned with the Institute of Medicine (2001) definition of patient-centered care: "Providing care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values, and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions."
