Mission, Objectives and Outcomes

Mission

The mission of the department of civil, construction and environmental engineering is to educate students in the Catholic, Jesuit tradition. These students will be competent in their technical fields, appreciate the moral and ethical impact of their professional work and continue their professional development throughout their careers. The students and faculty of the department will advance the state of technical and scientific knowledge through research and provide service to civil and professional communities.

Program Educational Objectives

Civil Engineering Degree Program

The Civil Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of , , under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for Civil and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.

  • Continue to participate in the civil engineering profession or in other related and/or emerging fields
  • Engage in life-long learning through: achievement of graduate degrees, advanced research and/or continuous professional development opportunities including attending professional conferences and seminars
  • Achieve professional licensure and certification after attaining the required years of professional experience
  • Become leaders in their professional and civic communities

Construction Engineering Degree Program

The Construction Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of , , under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for Construction and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.

Students graduating with the Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering will achieve the following within 3 to 5 years after graduation:

  • Work as a construction engineer with the awareness of the impacts of ethical, moral, religious, social, environmental, and economic factors on engineering solutions.
  • Attained or in pursuit of professional registration.
  • Enhanced team-building and communicating skills and effective performance in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Leadership positions in professional societies and community organizations.
  • Engage in lifelong learning with emphasis on both technical and contemporary issues

Outcomes

Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Degree Programs

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
