Distinguished Alumna of the Year Award

MARY BETH H. NIENHAUS, ARTS '65
Appleton, Wis.

Less is more in golf. Tell that to Mary Beth. She was the first female varsity student-athlete in ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵhistory. Amateur state golf champion from 1966–69. Wisconsin Female Golfer of the Year in 1969. LPGA Coach of the Year in 1987. And she’s one of only a handful of female members of the Wisconsin Golf Hall of Fame. Fittingly, she was a math major.

 

Lifetime Achievement Award

For Michael, precision has always been absolutely vital. A skilled anesthesiologist, he’s also a former speed skater — the only ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵgraduate to compete in three Olympics and medal at three World Championships.

Stan’s athletic scholarship set the stage for a ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵdegree and allowed him to meet his future wife, Barbara. Together, the Andries started an endowed athletic scholarship for men’s basketball and rarely miss a home game, despite living out of state.

Young Alumna of the Year Award

DR. KRISTEN L. MASKALA, ARTS '94
Richfield, Wis.

Kristen is a modern-day ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵlegend — her jersey is one of only three retired by women’s basketball. Now, the three-time academic All-American volunteers as the team doctor for Hartford (Wis.) High School and specializes in sports medicine as an orthopedic surgeon.
