College of Engineering Faculty Development Grants

2018 Faculty Scholar Development Awardees

This program is made possible through endowments made to the Opus College of Engineering.  Each award is $20,000 for a period of one year. Congratulations to the following faculty:

  • Dr. Anthony Parolari - Kozlowski Family Award for 鈥淢odeling green infrastructure influence on rainfall derived inflow and infiltration鈥
  • Dr. Walter McDonald - Earl B. and Charlotte Nelson Award for 鈥淯sing Drone Technologies to Develop the Heat Orthoimagery Terrain Temperature Water (HOTT Water) Model鈥
  • Dr. Patrick McNamara - Earl B. and Charlotte Nelson Award for 鈥淨uantification of antibiotic resistance genes in drinking water serving vulnerable populations鈥
  • Drs. Cristinel Ababei, Ronald Coutu, and Jonathan Fleischmann - William and Nancy Stemper Award for 鈥淒esign and Implementation of Semi-autonomous Underwater Vehicle for Water Quality Monitoring鈥
  • Drs. Somesh Roy and Jonathan Fleischmann - Michael J Wallace Award for 鈥淎tomistic Modeling of Soot Evolution in Combustion鈥
  • Dr. Simcha Singer - Michael J Wallace Award for 鈥淎daptive Surrogate Models for High-Pressure Combustion鈥
  • Dr. Nathan Weise - Michael J Wallace Award for 鈥淣ovel Gallium Nitride Power Converter for Industrial and Transportation Applications鈥

The Faculty Scholar Development Award program is made possible through endowments made to the Opus College of Engineering.  The following awards were offered in 2018:

  • Kozlowski Family Award 鈥 supporting engineering research on any topic
  • Earl B. and Charlotte Nelson Award 鈥 supporting research in environmental engineering with a focus on water research
  • William and Nancy Stemper Awards 鈥 supporting research in electrical engineering
  • Michael J Wallace Awards 鈥 supporting research in energy systems (including combustion)

Preference was given to proposals that:

  1. Originate from junior faculty (i.e. Principal Investigator (PI) at the Assistant Professor level).
  2. Have a high potential for extramural funding.
  3. Have significant scientific merit.
  4. Build or strengthen collaborative research partnerships.
