Strategic Priorities
Develop academic-community partnerships with Milwaukee鈥檚 diverse communities that actively engage students and faculty from diverse populations at Marquette.
Create an infrastructure and platforms that foster bidirectional, mutually beneficial community partnerships.
- With the creation of the position of Executive Director for Community Engagement in 2016, the university began building critical capacity for academic-community partnerships.
- Since 2016, the annual Community Engagement Symposium has been showcasing the importance of partnerships, organizations, and research initiatives, elevating our communities and their rich assets, and celebrating the relationships that make our university and city stronger.
- Sponsored by the Office of Economic Engagement, the Community Engaged Scholars Community of Practice supports faculty in the development of community-engaged scholarship.
Broaden access for first generation, low-income and underrepresented students in Marquette-sponsored local, regional, and international service-learning activities and study abroad opportunities.
Provide institutional resources to support student engagement in these high-impact and community-engaged opportunities.
Since 2020, the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion has partnered with the Office of International Education to sponsor to support low-income students鈥� participation in study abroad opportunities. The university has also received a donation from the Joerres Family to strengthen high-impact practice participation.
Increase support for interdisciplinary multicultural and intercultural scholarship of mutual benefit to both 向日葵视频 and Milwaukee鈥檚 diverse communities
Provide grant funding that incentivizes bi-directional partnerships and community-engaged research.
- Since 2017-18, the Engaged Research Partnership Development Grant, sponsored by the Office of Economic Engagement, has been awarded to community-engaged research projects that pair faculty and community organizations.
- The President鈥檚 Challenge is a grant program, developed in partnership with American Family Insurance and Johnson Controls, that provides funding for innovative, interdisciplinary, collaborative work that addresses needs in Milwaukee through bidirectional community partnerships.
