Smart Classroom Security Guidelines

Members of the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵcommunity have access to reserve smart classrooms for functions that relate to their responsibility on campus. These security guidelines outline the obligations incurred when a smart classroom is scheduled by an individual or group.

Scheduling

Academic Class Course sections take priority over all non-academic related functions.

Due to high demand for classroom space, there may be a function held immediately following a non-class event.  The Office of the Registrar reserves the right to reassign groups to alternate smart classroom spaces based on other academic needs, maintenance, safety or other needs of the University.

Room Access (Swipe)

Swipe card access will be temporarily provided to a designated responsible party’s MU ID card if that person does not already have smart classroom access.  The responsible party must be present and maintain control of the smart classroom at all times.  At the end of the event the responsible party must close/secure all doors

Room Access (Key)

For key access rooms, the designated responsible party must meet the Department of Public Safety Officer at the assigned room with a photo ID and a copy of the space confirmation.  After verifying the responsible party, the DPS officer will provide access as needed. The DPS officer will secure the classroom doors at the scheduled end time of the reservation.

The responsible party must be present and maintain control of the smart classroom at all times.  If an event has ended earlier than scheduled, DPS should be contacted at 414-288-6800 to lock doors.

Presentation Technology

Classroom technology information and instructions are available on the Classroom Technology website.

  • Ensure technology podium in the room is appropriately shut down at the end of each session using the touch screen.
  • Do not unplug or manually turn off power to any technology podium devices.
  • Do not attempt to gain access to wiring or change wiring in any way.
  • Report any malfunctions immediately to Classroom Support (414-288-2577).

Etiquette

  • Smoking, eating, and drinking are not allowed in smart classrooms.
  • Catered events must be set up outside classrooms.
  • Maintain a noise level in the room and corridors appropriate and respectful to other classes and events occurring in proximity.

At Conclusion of Your Event

  • Return desks and chairs to their original order.
  • Erase chalkboards and/or whiteboards.
  • Remove any signs posted.
  • Properly dispose of all liter.
  • Shut down presentation system using the touch screen.
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Close all classroom doors.

Failure to follow the above security obligations may result in loss of privilege of a group or any group associated with the responsible party to use ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ academic smart classrooms in the future.   Cost to repair or replace damaged equipment, beyond normal wear and tear, attributable to the group, may be charged to the group by the university.  For questions concerning this agreement, please contact the Office of the Registrar at OTR25Live@marquette.edu.
