ABOUT THE OFFICE OF THE BURSAR
The Office of the Bursar produces semester bills, processes student payments and credits student accounts with financial aid. Semester bills include tuition, housing charges, and other applicable fees.
Depending on your income (or your family’s income, if you are a dependent), whether you were considered full or half-time enrolled, and the amount of your qualified educational expenses for the year, you may be eligible for a federal education tax credit. (You can find detailed information about claiming education tax credits in page 9.)
The dollar amounts reported on your Form 1098-T may assist you in completing IRS Form 8863 – the form used for calculating the education tax credits that a taxpayer may claim as part of your tax return.
ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ is unable to provide you with individual tax advice. If you have questions, contact an informed tax preparer or adviser.
1098-T’s are available to view and print online by mid-January. Students can visit > Student Account > View 1098T. If they have not previously done so, they will be prompted to grant consent to view it.
Once consent is granted, the student can view and print their 1098-T. Granting consent is only necessary one time; future 1098-T's will automatically be available to view and print online unless the student revokes consent.
Any eligible student who does not grant consent to view online will have a 1098-T form mailed by January 31st to their home address.
As determined by the federal government, qualified expenses are defined as amounts paid for tuition, fees and other related expense for an eligible student that are required for enrollment or attendance at an eligible educational institution.
Nonqualified expenses are defined as required course materials and educational supplies, living expenses including housing and food, parking, athletics, insurance, equipment, transportation, or other similar personal living expenses. As a result, the amount of qualified expenses will likely be less than the total amount of money paid.
You may print out a statement of your account activity in CheckMarq. From CheckMarq Student Home, select the Student Account tile, then click or tap View 1098-T.
