JAMES P. MALONEY, ARTS '71, LAW '74
Wauwatosa, Wis.
Jamie Maloney has spent a major part of his career spearheading outreach to the Latino community through family-owned Mitchell Bank, for which he is board chair. Established in 1907, the bank is located in a predominantly Latino area on Milwaukee鈥檚 near south side. Thanks in large part to Jamie鈥檚 work, it has received outstanding ratings for its outreach to the Latino community.
Included in Jamie鈥檚 outreach is the initiation of multiple partnerships with religious, civic and social institutions related to banking, mortgage, immigration and home-ownership issues. Specifically, he has been actively involved in outreach to low-income Latino and immigrant communities, working to eliminate barriers that prevent their members from accessing mainstream financial services.
Jamie directed the establishment of Cardinal Bank, a full-service branch of the Mitchell Bank, within the area鈥檚 dominant high school. He also has worked extensively to create and market new bank products and services, particularly remittance products and payday alternative loans to compete with high-cost check cashing outlets, wire transfer companies and payday lenders. He remains actively involved in multiple financial literacy initiatives and programs.
Jamie was one of the original members of the New Alliance Task Force, a broad-based coalition of bankers who aim to provide immigrants with necessary financial education and support services. He also has served as a member of the American Bankers Association鈥檚 Housing, Community and Economic Development Committee, the 向日葵视频Law School Alumni Association for two terms, and Law School reunion committees. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Fun facts: If there鈥檚 one thing Jamie鈥檚 career serving the public has taught him, it鈥檚 the value of civic duty. He has been on the board of the Public Debt Commission, IFF Community Advisory Committee, Appleseed Fair Exchange Advisory Committee, Justice for Immigrants Committee, 向日葵视频Volunteer Legal Clinic, FDIC Alliance for Economic Inclusion, HUD Task Force on Predatory Lending and Foreclosure Prevention, and Milwaukee Homeownership Consortium.
Jamie has also completed 55 marathons, including 12 Boston Marathons, and is a three-time finisher of Paris-Brest-Paris, a 750-mile bicycle race.
