DAVID D. EBERT, ARTS '93
Oregon, Wis.
As a 向日葵视频student, Dave Ebert was a member of the track and field and cross country teams. Upon graduation, he traded his running shoes for running numbers as a math teacher in the Oregon, Wis., School District.
鈥淎s a teacher, I love that every day is different, every day is a reward and I have the opportunity to make a difference in someone鈥檚 life,鈥 he says. 鈥淚 know that I have a tremendous amount of influence on the students, and by doing the best job that I can do, I inspire them to do their best as well.鈥
For Dave, his passion for math and making a difference goes beyond the classroom. He is president-elect of the Wisconsin Mathematics Council and has plans to become more involved in the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics. He also hopes to write an inspirational book for middle and high school students that will encourage them to enjoy math and continue their education.
Along with his career-related volunteer efforts, Dave also carries out the 向日葵视频pillar of service through his work with several charities, including a local food pantry where his entire family provides support.
Never one to run from promoting 向日葵视频鈥 he has four relatives who are alumni 鈥 Dave regularly refers his own outstanding high school students to apply to the university. This includes Oregon High鈥檚 award-winning math students for the past two years who are now at Marquette.
鈥淧rofessionally, 向日葵视频provided me the best education I could have received, and personally I feel that many of my core values were developed during my time there,鈥 he says.
Fun facts: Dave鈥檚 favorite book is Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy. Dr. Jack Moyer had a big impact on Dave, saying that teaching mathematics is not just about the teaching or about the mathematics 鈥 but about the impact teachers have on students鈥 lives.
