FACULTY & STAFF
There are boundless opportunities for faculty and staff to collaborate with the Ott.
Each year, the Ott works closely with instructors of record across campus, organizing informational classroom visits and workshops on a variety of topics (e.g., literature reviews, writing in STEM disciplines, revising effectively).
The Ott also partners with faculty and staff on programmatic efforts. Recently, the Ott worked with Foundations in Rhetoric, A&S WRIT course instructors, and the Academic Integrity Office to provide increased outreach to undergraduate writers. The Ott also enrolled students from two A&S capstones and one Occupational Therapy graduate class in partner programs (e.g., OSP, WrAP) to support students鈥 work on long-range writing projects.
In addition, in Spring 鈥24, instructors from the Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences joined the Ott鈥檚 pilot Assignment SOS Program. It organizes 鈥渂espoke鈥 out-of-class tutoring for students, tailored to a specific course assignment. Going forward, the SOS Program will be available to 8-12 instructors per semester.
Faculty and staff are always welcome to bring their own writing to the Ott. Tutors can provide unique insight into writing for instructional purposes, including course syllabi and assignment prompts. Ott tutors are also ready, willing, and able to offer feedback on writing for academic and other purposes, including conference proposals and presentations, grant applications, and manuscripts intended for publication.
We welcome inquiries that may lead to new partnerships and programming, and we encourage faculty and staff to recommend students to become tutors. Recruitment takes place each fall prior to spring course registration.
