Rachel Dietzman HeadshotRachel Dietzman (she/her) (MU '25 )

She is passionate about nonprofit capacity building and has spent nearly a decade supporting nonprofit human services. She holds a bachelor's degree in Community & Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently pursuing an MBA at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ, Rachel aims to blend her nonprofit expertise with best practices in leadership and management to drive lasting social change. Rachel is a ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵTrinity Fellow, a two-year program dedicated to developing civic leaders committed to social and economic justice. She is placed with the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council (WSBC) as their Member Manager and works to advance sustainable practices through the power of business. 

Rachel's passion for women in leadership inspired her desire to join IWL. Her extensive experience in program coordination, fundraising, and grant management positions her as a valuable resource for fellow students aspiring to succeed in the nonprofit sector. She is looking forward to her time on the SAB to highlight the accomplishments of Women in Milwaukee, foster collaboration, and empower the next generation of women leaders.

I was born and raised in New York to two immigrant parents and take pride in being a first-generation American as it guides my unique perspective and work ethic. I did most of my initial schooling on Long Island. At Marquette, I study Human Resources and International Business with a minor in Psychology. I love to read and travel. I have circumnavigated the world to more than 10 countries as well as am currently completing a semester abroad thus sparking my interest in business overseas. While living in Wisconsin, I have elevated my skills in customer/human relations through extensive retail experience and volunteer work in my community. LuritLako_Headshot Lurit Lako  (MU '26)

She is a driven Biomedical Engineering student at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ with a concentration in biocomputation. As a first generation South Sudanese-American, Lurit aspires to apply her studies towards research/development and quality engineering in hopes of contributing to global health efforts against the humanitarian crises in her home country.

Complimenting her scholastic focus, Lurit serves as the chairwoman and graphic designer for the African Student Association. Her commitment to diversity and inclusion is further exemplified through her active participation in the university's chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers and her role as a founding member of the university’s Afro-dance team. She is also passionate about community service and loves to volunteer, especially when it comes to refugee and immigrant centered work.

Lurit is honored and enthusiastic to work with the Student Advisory Board to learn from and empower all kinds of women. While continuing to balance academics and extracurricular engagement, Lurit is eager for the opportunity to further hone both her professional and interpersonal skills through the enriching experiences offered by the Institute of Women's Leadership.

What are you most excited about joining the SAB?

Abby Lamkins (MU '26)

Abby is a sophomore double-majoring in Digital Media and Public Relations and double-minoring in Social Welfare and Justice and Gender Studies. She is passionate about helping people and strives to use her skills in communications and media production to promote advocacy causes and make a positive difference in the lives of those around her. In her free time, Abby enjoys powerlifting, visiting different coffee shops around Milwaukee, and reading.

Hello everyone, I'm Melanie Leyva, I am a senior in the Klinger School of Arts and Science majoring in Political Science with double minors in Law and Society and Public Policy. On campus I'm a Student Director at the Arrupe Center for Community Service and Social Responsibility under the 414 Fellows Americorps program. In partnership with the Center and the Sixteenth Street Community Health Center I also intern and participate in the "Salud Social" program. This summer I was selected to participate in the  Programa de Inmersión Cultural y Voluntariado (PICV) hosted by Relaciones Exteriores de Mexico. I had the pleasure to travel to Mexico City and Zacatecas for three weeks in which I volunteered and met many local public officials.

As a woman from an immigrant family, it has always been my mission to represent my Mexican heritage through my accomplishments. I'm excited to ignite this passion with IWL and kindle others to find joy in representing their culture and being an active member in local communities. Ally Olsen (MU '25)

She is a Senior at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ, majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Computer Science. Apart from being a part of the IWL Student Advisory Board, she is also on the Executive Board for Students for an Environmentally Active Campus (SEAC), participates in research in the Biological Sciences Department, and is a Teaching Assistant for the Principles of Biological Investigation course. She has a passion for the environment and hopes to utilize the skills she gains from her involvement with IWL to pursue her goal of attending law school and further pursuing a career in the field of environmental law. Prior to joining IWL, she was a Sustainability Intern for Marquette's Office of Sustainability; she hopes to apply the skills she learned in this position to contribute to IWL's mission of empowering women leaders.

My name is Pasqualina Paloma Muro and I am a current sophomore studying Finance and Commercial Real Estate here at Marquette. On campus, I'm involved in the student-led Women in Business organization and the Commercial Real Estate Club. Outside of campus, I am a volunteer dance member for Tradizione Vivente, the Italian Dance Group of Milwaukee. Last summer I had the opportunity to intern at Northwestern Mutual in Investment Data Analytics & Research. This summer I am looking forward to interning at Three Leaf Partners.

Gabrielle Chun is a graduating senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Business Administration, Graphic Design, and Writing-Intensive English at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ. Gabrielle is pursuing two master’s degrees—an MBA and MS in Mechanical Engineering—through Marquette's accelerated degree program opportunities.

From actively engaging in her classes and extracurricular activities, Gabrielle has cultivated her communication, organization, leadership, and creative critical thinking skills. Gabrielle was born and raised in Kaneohe, HI on the island of 'Oahu, and she seeks to return to her home island after her time at Marquette. To apply her diverse expertise, Gabrielle aims for a full-time career in technical sales following graduation. Gabrielle uses her joyful spirit and tireless energy to encourage her peers to work hard and succeed. In her free time, Gabrielle enjoys reading, playing outside with her dog, and trying new restaurants with her family.

Sarah is a dynamic student pursuing a Master of Science in Biomechanical Engineering at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ. With a blend of academic prowess and leadership, she excels as the Industry Relations Intern at the Opus College of Engineering and as a Lead Peer Calculus Tutor for Academic Resource Center. Passionate about women's leadership, Sarah is an active member of the Institute for Women’s Leadership Student Advisory Board. She brings valuable industry experience from her roles at UN&UP, LLC and Tapemark, demonstrating proficiency in research, 3D printing, and biotechnology. Committed to healthcare innovation, Sarah is the Founder and President of Global Health Technologies, working to create affordable medical devices. Recognized for her achievements, she has received awards such as the Bea Haggerty Outstanding Student Service Award. Sarah's dedication to excellence and her drive to make a positive impact exemplify her leadership and commitment to success.

Mary Joy Hickey is a second-year graduate student in Marquette’s Student Affairs in Higher Education program. During her time at Marquette, Mary Joy has served as graduate assistant for both the Office of Assessment and the Excellence in Leadership (E-Lead) program. Mary Joy’s previous education includes a graduate certificate in Instructional Design from UW-Stout and a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication – Media Studies and Digital Arts and Culture certificate from UW-Milwaukee. 

Prior to Marquette, Mary Joy worked in numerous professional roles in marketing and instructional design in the engineering and technology industries. A passionate community advocate and musician, Mary Joy also has also provided community organizing leadership for grassroots non-profit organizations promoting women in the arts and music. In her free time, Mary Joy enjoys playing drums and guitar with her band, volunteering for Girls Rock and Ladies Rock MKE, reading all the books, exploring new restaurants, and hanging with her husband, 6-year-old son, and pug Pawla Pickles.

Sherlean Roberts is a distinguished senior at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ, where she pursues a captivating academic journey. Triple majoring in Political Science, International Affairs, and Peace Studies, Sherlean embodies true dedication to understanding global dynamics and fostering harmony within Marquette. 

Beyond her academic pursuits, Sherlean plays an integral role in the university community. As the Vice President of the Lambda Lambda Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., she exemplifies leadership and service. Additionally, Sherlean is honored as a Burke Scholar, a testament to her scholarly achievements and commitment to community service. 

Often found immersed in study within the Educational Opportunity Program office on campus, Sherlean's passion for learning is evident. Her aspirations extend beyond undergraduate studies, as she plans to attend graduate school, focusing on Political Science with an emphasis on International Affairs. 

Eager to enact positive change, Sherlean recently joined the MUSG senate, actively engaging in initiatives to enhance the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵexperience for all. With her determination, intellect, and unwavering dedication, Sherlean is poised to leave a lasting impact on both her university and the broader world.
