Housing Accommodation Request
Special requests for housing based on mental health, medical or mobility related conditions will be reviewed by the Office of Residence Life (ORL) and the Office of Disability Services (ODS); based upon the type of request and the spaces available, ORL will work to meet the documented need for housing accommodations within the residence halls.
In some cases, student may need to choose between their preferences and their documented needs when ORL makes the final placement. In a situation where there is not an appropriate space readily available, ORL may have to place a student with a documented need on a priority waitlist while waiting for the correct room to become available.
In order to request special housing due to mental health, medical or mobility needs, please follow the procedure described below.
Special Housing Requests Procedure
Students should submit the following documents to the Office of Disability Services:
- The Special Housing Request form. (This form applies to a single year; students are required to submit a new form for university-owned housing related needs in future academic years.)
- Medical documentation completed by an appropriately licensed health care provider, verifying the diagnosis, symptoms, and effects, and should ideally describe how the medical or mental health concern necessitates consideration for special housing. (There is normally no need to update medical/mental health documentation when the medical reasoning for modifications remains the same over multiple academic years.)
Documents may be emailed to ods@marquette.edu, faxed to 414-288-5799 or mailed to:

Upon Receipt of this information, the Office of Disability Services will review the Special Housing Request form and documentation to determine whether there is support for a requested accommodation. Occasionally, additional information or clarification of submitted information may be requested. If the documentation provides the information that is needed, ODS will notify the Office of Residence Life who will determine what arrangements would be appropriate to meet the student's needs based on availability, and if necessary, will work to provide reasonable alternatives if the student's specific request cannot be met.
Submission of the Special Housing Request form and supporting documentation DOES NOT guarantee a specific request will be granted, but rather, will assist in evaluating potential modifications to the default housing arrangement.
Special Housing Request Timeline
In order to receive full consideration for an accommodation, students should submit their request before the general housing selection process occurs. The timeline for incoming and current students is outlined below:
Incoming Students: Submit request and documentation by May 1.
Current Students: Submit request and documentation by March 1.
Disability Services and Housing Placements
Students seeking out disability-related housing accommodations must submit documentation to the Office of Disability Services. For non-disability-related housing requests, please contact the Office of Residence Life.
