Advising

Peace studies primary majors are required to virtually meet with Dr. Louise Cainkar during advising. Peace studies minors are encouraged to connect with Jenna Harb.

Note: A was instated beginning Fall 2020, so if you declared peace studies before Fall 2020 please reference the previous curriculum.

Capstone notice

The peace studies capstone is offered in the spring semester. Seniors who are planning to graduate in December or study abroad in the spring should register for the capstone as a junior.

Please note that the capstone is an internship course. Students will be placed with nonprofits and other organizations in the area. If you already have an internship planned or would like to discuss site possibilities before enrolling, please contact Laurie Marks.

Course waivers

Courses are occasionally offered that fit the themes and requirements of peace studies despite not being formally included in the official peace studies curriculum. The courses listed below will be accepted as waived electives.

Important: It is the student's responsibility to meet with Dr. Cainkar to complete and submit the course waiver form.

Courses not listed below may still be waived in if there is sufficient peace studies content. Students pursuing this option should schedule a meeting and share the course syllabus with Dr. Cainkar.

After completing the Les Aspin Center - Washington, D.C. Program, Peace Studies students are welcome to share the syllabi of their Les Aspin courses with Dr. Louise Cainkar for her to determine one course to waive in as an equivalent to a current peace studies elective. Students who have already had another course waived in will not be eligible.
