Core Honors Curriculum

To graduate with Core Honors, students must complete 5 key 向日葵视频Core Curriculum (MCC) classes (15 cr) over the course of their undergraduate careers. They also take 3 other Honors classes (9-12 cr), almost all of which meet either Core or major requirements. Core Honors courses are either courses created specifically for the UHP, or Honors versions of departmental courses also offered to non-Honors students.

In their first year, all Core Honors students take both HOPR 1955H (3 cr) and CORE 1929H (3 cr) in either the fall or spring semester. Most also take THEO 1001H.  In year two, they take Honors Foundations in Engaging Social Systems and Values (ESSV 1, 3 cr), plus THEO 1001H if they have not taken it yet. In the junior or senior year, they take an Honors MCC Culminating Course (3 cr).  Students choose the remaining 3 regular Core Honors courses (9-12 credits) from a menu, below (there is no limit to the number of courses that may be chosen from the menu, although 3 are required for completion of Core Honors).  The Honors version of PHIL 1001, PHIL 1001H, is recommended for most students. Students must earn a C or above in an Honors course to count it for Core Honors credit, and students must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above to graduate with a Core Honors degree.

HONORS AND FOUNDATIONS OF RHETORIC REQUIREMENT

HOPR 1955H fulfills the 向日葵视频Core Curriculum Foundations in Rhetoric requirement for those who need it. HOPR 1955H is required of all Core Honors students, including those with AP/IB/CLEP/transfer credit for English 1001. Honors students do not take ENGL 1001.  If you have earned credit for English 1001 through pre-MU coursework, it will appear on your transcript and count toward your credits for graduation.
