Five-Year B.S. in Computer Science / M.S. in Computer and Information Science Program
Computer Science majors considering a professional career can choose to combine the undergraduate course work with an additional year of study to receive a B.S. with a major in Computer Science and an M.S. in Computer and Information Science in five years. This program provides the opportunity to extend technical knowledge though the acquisition of 21 additional credits in course related to computer science, information technology, computer engineering, and information systems, which are the five disciplines that constitute the study of computer and information science.
Students with qualifying academic records can apply to the Graduate School for admission into the M.S. in Computer and Information Science program after their sophomore year.
The department cross lists many upper division courses as graduate courses. The graduate school version of these courses have different grading expectations and additional assignments to qualify them for graduate study. Students in the five-year program register for the graduate courses to fulfill four of the upper division electives in the Computer Science major. These courses are double counted to provide 12 of the graduate credits required for the MS degree. To complete the program in five years, the student must obtain the 21 graduate course credits over the following summer, fall and spring terms.
