- Dr. Serdar Bozdag - Received a 2013 Summer Faculty Fellowship for his proposal entitled Reverse Engineering of Gene Regulatory Networks From High-Throughput Genomics Data.
- Dr. Dennis Brylow - Received funding from Google to conduct a three-day CS4HS (Computer Science for High School) summer workshop for teachers. The workshop will be held on campus in Cudahy Hall, July 23-25. The Google CS4HS Program is an initiative sponsored by Google to promote Computer Science and Computational Thinking in high school and middle school curriculum

- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Is part of a Marquette/Medical College of Wisconsin/University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee/ Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center team awarded a Healthier Wisconsin Partnership Program (HWPP) grant entitled 鈥淒ryHootch iPeer: A Social & Technology Support Program for Veteran Mental Health鈥. The project plans to enhance integration of civilian health systems, particularly on college campuses where large numbers of young veterans attend school, with informal, community-based veteran peer mentor programs and existing VA healthcare services; with the goal of increasing continuity in care and enhanced awareness of the needs of veterans.
- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Elected as a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Received an award from the Way Klingler College of Arts and Sciences for research to deploy palliative care software. The palliative care software deployment effort is in collaboration with the Marshfield Clinic and the John T. Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute. The John T. Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute works with American Indians living in South Dakota Reservations (Pine Ridge, Rosebud and Cheyenne River Sioux). In addition to potentially addressing cancer care disparities in the American Indian population and other medically under-served populations, this effort will gather data/initial results for future funding efforts.

- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Received funding from the International Breast Cancer Research Foundation to conduct a one year project entitled Cross Sectional Study of Cell Phone Assessments of Symptoms in Patients with Advanced Cancer. The grant duration is from September 1, 2012 to August 31, 2013.

- Dr. Rong Ge - Received the National Science Foundation (NSF) Computer Systems Research (CSR) award for her project "EEDAG: Exploring Energy-Efficient Parallel Tasks Generation and Scheduling for Heterogeneous Multicore Systems". The project will investigate the impact of different parallel tasks design strategies on application performance and energy-efficiency, explore energy-aware parallel scheduling algorithms for heterogeneous multi core systems, and develop an easy-to-use power profiling toolkit that can be used to obtain decomposed application runtime power consumption characteristics for large scale systems.
- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Received the 2011 向日葵视频International Research Award with members of the UbiComp Lab for their poster presentation, Findings from deployment of e-ESAS: A remote symptom systems for rural breast case patients in Bangladesh from the 向日葵视频Office of International Education.
- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Received an NIDDR sub award from UW-Milwaukee for the research and development of smart phone software systems in occupational therapy trichotomous tailored sub-branching scoring outline, distance measurement, and map generation applications.
- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Received a one year grant from the International Breast Cancer Foundation for "Breast Cancer Palliation Study Phase II". The research effort has the potential to facilitate breast cancer treatment for under served areas of the Third World and provide support for graduate research stipends.
- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Received a sub award grant through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from the U. S. Department of Education and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research for his project "Inertial Navigation Systems" to develop smart phone technology to unobtrusively monitor a user's daily physical activity.

- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Received an award from WiFi Locator Solutions, LLC for his project, 鈥淪mart Tracker Using WiFi.鈥 The goal of this research is to implement a low cost, low power tracking solution which uses the signal strength of radio transmissions to determine the position of a WiFi tag. April 2010.
- Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed - Received an award from the International Breast Cancer Research Foundation for the project entitled, 鈥淏reast Cancer Palliation Study Phase 1.鈥 The goal of the proposed project is to design and develop AutoCare (AC), a cellular phone and other wearable sensors based health-assessment system that facilitate palliative care for breast cancer patients in the advanced state of the disease in the country of Bangladesh. June 2010.
- Dr. Dennis Brylow - received a third year of funding from Intel Corporation for his project entitled, "A Transaction-Based Multi-Core Xinu." Extending the Xinu operating system to support new multi-core processors will help researchers and educators who need a small, elegant platform for exploring modern operating system concurrency. Adding cutting-edge software transactional memory support into the system would provide a powerful new tool for concurrency control in the heart of current systems. This award provides funding for 12 months of research assistant stipend and tuition.
- Dr. Dennis Brylow and Dr. Rong Ge - Their proposal 鈥淟ight as a Cloud: A Lightweight, Power-Aware O/S for the SCC鈥 was selected by Intel Corporation. Brylow and Ge will be part of a collection of academic researchers conducting experiments and deploying technologies on an Intel prototype, the Single-chip Cloud Computing Platform. This platform includes an experimental 48-core Intel processor that has ten to twenty times the processing engines inside today鈥檚 most popular Intel branded processors.
