3D Printing Requests

Overview

The 3D printer (a Raise3D Pro 2) in the Wakerly Media Lab is available to the Diederich College of Communication community for making three-dimensional objects in plastic using a design that is uploaded from a file.

The 3D printer may be used only for lawful purposes. All objects printed need to be in line with the 向日葵视频 Student Code of Conduct. You are not permitted to print anything in violation of another鈥檚 intellectual property rights. The printer will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.

Guidelines and Print Procedure

Printing takes place during regular service hours: 9 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. Depending on the length of the queue, your print will be ready within seven business days.

The lab reserves the right to refuse prints that will monopolize the printer or take an extremely long time to print. To help prevent this, we may ask you to scale down the size of your print, if we can print at a lower infill, or if we can print your submission in pieces to be glued together. In some cases, we may ask you to resubmit your print as smaller files.

3D printing consultations are available by e-mailing the lab. The consultation is not intended as an introduction on how to use 3D modeling software or how to design a 3D model. Consultations are intended to provide you a basic understanding of how 3D printing works, i.e. what software can be used to develop a model, best practices for preparing a model for printing, offer resources to learn more about how to utilize 3D modeling software to develop 3D models.

Cost

There is no cost for prints. The lab may institute a fee in the future to help recoup the cost of filament.

Submitting a Print

Please submit a .stl file (no larger than 25MB) to the lab via the print request form below. In the notes, please specify the desired dimensions in mm or inches. Please also list the number being requested if more than one.

Wait/pickup time: You will receive an e-mail when printing is complete, and items may be picked up in the lab. While it is difficult to estimate exact print times, we expect most prints to be completed and ready for pick up within 7 business days.
