Interdisciplinary and Joint Programs
Interdisciplinary Ph.D.
Pursuing this doctoral degree gives you the chance to create an academic program that spans multiple disciplines. Instead of being supported by one department, school or college, your program is administered by a faculty committee. If you are interested in crafting your own Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program, read the details and guidelines for this unique program.
Dual Degree Program: Master of Arts in Communication and Political Science or International Affairs
Study Politics and Communication. Earn Two Degrees.
In conjunction with the Department of Political Science, the Diederich College of Communication offers a dual degree study program that leads to a Master鈥檚 degree in Communication and a Master鈥檚 degree in Political Science or International Affairs.
If you choose to participate in our dual program, you can earn both degrees in less time than if you pursued them separately because you can reduce the total number of credit hours for both your Master's degrees by nine hours. Typically, dual degree students complete core communication courses and substitute Political Science or International Affairs courses for Specialization courses or electives.
Please note that you must apply to both programs separately and that admission to one program does not necessarily guarantee acceptance to both programs. To apply, submit separate applications, including two sets of required documentation, to the Graduate School for admission to The Diederich College of Communication and the Political Science Department.
Questions about specifics? Contact Dr. Sarah Feldner, the associate dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and she will explain the details of the dual program.
