McNeely Prison Education Consortium
The McNeely Prison Education Consortium (MPEC)
The McNeely Prison Education Consortium (MPEC) provides access to higher education for students directly impacted by the criminal legal system through a collaborative effort involving universities, colleges, correctional facilities, re-entry programs, and community organizations across Southeastern Wisconsin. By connecting these stakeholders, MPEC offers currently and formerly incarcerated students opportunities to pursue higher education degrees and educational programs. Additionally, MPEC supports higher education institutions in effectively serving these students, contributing to the development of stronger, safer, and more economically vibrant communities throughout the region.
MPEC focuses its efforts primarily in Southeast Wisconsin, building pathways to four-year degree programs at consortium partner colleges and universities. MPEC is currently working to secure multiple pathways to 4-year degrees inside select Wisconsin Department of Corrections facilities for currently incarcerated students. For students released back into their communities, MPEC collaborates with reentry services, non-profit organizations, and social justice initiatives across Milwaukee to connect returning students on consortium partners’ campuses to wrap-around services. MPEC also delivers financial aid counseling, tutoring, academic and career advising utilizing trauma-informed, restorative practices to all students.
The McNeely Prison Education Consortium (MPEC) is currently composed of the following Southeastern Wisconsin colleges and universities:
