Students with majors in the Department of Social and Cultural Science are able to participate in academic, community based internships, and receive credit in their respective major. These internships provide the linkage between the academic course content and real world application. They prepare the student to be competitive in the job market, and informed when entering graduate programs with a world view perspective on their chosen field.

My name is Jenna Kozal. This summer, I had the privilege of working directly with ADA Kelly O鈥橬eill in the Community Partnership Unit in the Milwaukee County District Attorney鈥檚 Office. I was able to gain hands-on experience in a courthouse setting, as well as out in the community to provide resources and information to anyone who may need them. I attended trials, attended a ride along, and even was provided with the chance to monitor two deferred prosecution agreement clients to help them stay on the right track. This internship was amazing, and I am so thankful that it provided me with the firsthand experience of what it鈥檚 like working in in the DA鈥檚 office. |

My name is Elizabeth Sporina and I am studying Criminology and French, with a minor in Psychology. This fall, I was given the opportunity to intern at the Milwaukee District Attorney's Office, in their Domestic Violence Unit. As a Victim/Witness intern, I am able to attend hearings with current V/Ws, assist phone calls and letters, actively utilize the record management system, learn the ins & outs of victim's rights, and the overall court process of domestic violence cases. Since coming to Marquette, I have been interested in assisting those who have been impacted by crimes, and this opportunity has been an incredible hands-on way to experience that. I will be continuing this internship next semester as well and could not be more excited to continue advocating for those who have been impacted by violence. |
