University Apartment Electricity

When living in one of the University Apartments, the only utility you may have to consider is electricity.  Following is how this may affect you in an on-campus apartment:

Apartment

Electricity Service (view details about electricity in the University Apartments)

McCabe

Electricity paid by landlord (Marquette).

Campus Town East

Campus Town West

Gilman

Frenn

Electricity paid by tenant.

  • Tenants are responsible for starting and stopping their electric payments through WE Energies.  Any changes to an account - including switching the account from one roommate to another - can be completed .  Only one roommate per apartment must complete the enrollment with WE Energies.  Tenants will receive a monthly bill from WE Energies, who also provides payment plans and energy saving resources.

The Marq

Electricity paid by tenant.

  • Tenants must enroll with The Marq's online payment portal.  While rental charges for The Marq are billed through 向日葵视频Central, additional charges (such as electricity and parking (if applicable)) are assessed through the resident portal by The Marq's facilities staff (COCM) on a monthly basis.

Your apartment manager serves as a starting point for any questions that you might have on setting up your electric account.

Heating / Air Conditioning in the University Apartments

These amenities / utilities vary between the on-campus buildings.  While all apartments have heat, not all apartments have air conditioning:

  • Air Conditioning - Campus Town, The Marq, Frenn
  • No A/C - Gilman, McCabe

Furthermore, the manner in which these services are provided may be reflected in your utilities:

Heating and air conditioning are generated centrally.  However, every apartment unit has its own thermostat to control the temperature.  While residents do not pay to generate the heat or air conditioning per se, they do pay to run the air handler to get the heating and air conditioning to the apartment.  If residents choose to keep the apartment very warm in the winter and very cool in the summer, they will see it reflected on their energy bill.

Gilman

McCabe

Heat is generated by steam radiators (gas-powered; paid by landlord).  Due to the age of these buildings, Gilman and McCabe are not able to support A/C units - even individual window or floor units - because the electrical infrastructure does not have enough circuits to support the amperage drawn by typical A/C units.

Heating and AC in the apartments is managed by the respective facilities departments:
