MilwaukeeWI53201United States of America(414) 288-6900stephen.guastello@marquette.eduDr. Guastello's research interests fall into several areas. The largest concerns nonlinear dynamics (chaos, complexity, and catastrophe theories, and related principles) and their applications to work motivation, work performance and turnover, occupational safety and health, creativity, group and organizational behavior, and cognitive workload and fatigue. Dr. Guastello's other interests include the role of macroeconomics in organizational behavior, human-computer interface design, computer-based test interpretations and expert systems, personality and organizational behavior.

Software
Peressini, A. F., & Guastello, S. J. (2016-2022). Synccalc 2.1. Synccalc is an algorithm for determining the degree of physiological synchronization (e.g. in electrodermal responses) that exists within a group or team while performing a task. It begins with a matrix showing the influence of each person on every other person in the group. The group member with the greatest influence is the 鈥渄river.鈥 The group member who is most responsive to the others in the group is the 鈥渆mpath.鈥 The synchronization coefficient represents the total level of group influence relative to the empath鈥檚 perspective. Available from:
Peressini, A. F., & Guastello, S. J. (2014). is an analysis based on symbolic dynamics that identifies recurring patterns of events in nominally-coded data. In other words, the events can be identified by categories, rather than metrics. The final statistics include the string length, topological entropy in the form of the (largest) Lyapunov exponent, fractal dimension, Shannon entropy, and a chi-square test for goodness of fit. V2.4 contains aggregation functions that accommodate multiple categorical variables.
Editor in Chief: . This is the refereed research journal of the . SJG is the founding Editor in Chief, and currently continues in that capacity. NDPLS was first published by Human Sciences Press, Div. Plenum in 1997-98 and by Kluwer Academic Publishers, now part of Springer Inc., during the years 1999-2003. NDPLS is now published directly by the Society. SJG also manages its production operations. Consultant to Industry
The most frequently requested projects have involved the application of basic research in nonlinear dynamics for personnel selection and retention, occupational accident analysis and prevention, and management development. Portions of the work have involved writing, administration, and analysis of surveys for occupational safety, organizational development efforts, and knowledge acquisition for expert systems. Other projects include the development of personnel selection systems and selection test validation for executives, salespeople, controllers, operations, skilled trades, and support personnel.
