Research Interests
I am a philosopher of science working primarily on topics in the history and philosophy of evolutionary biology and the historical sciences. Broadly speaking, I like to look at the developmental history of the sciences to figure out what processes help us to generate knowledge about the world. I'm also very interested in the nature of scientific explanation and understanding, and have interests in philosophy of the social sciences, bioethics, just war theory, technology, and a bunch of other stuff. Before arriving at MU I held academic appointments at Florida State University and Kansas State University. When I'm not teaching or writing, you can usually find me running obscene distances, playing guitar, or enjoying a craft cocktail.
