O'Brien Fellowship Code of Conduct

Thank you for participating in the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism program. In order to be eligible to participate in the O’Brien Fellowship, participants must read and agree to comply with the Code of Conduct, which is meant to help ensure that the program experience is meaningful and productive for all participants.

 

Appropriate behavior: We strive for a collaborative and respectful environment free from discrimination, harassment and abusive or demeaning conduct. Good faith, considerate interactions are central to the effectiveness of the program. By joining and participating in the O’Brien Fellowship program, you are agreeing to this Code of Conduct for the program.

 

Violation of Code of Conduct: Any violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary actions in accordance with University policy up to and including dismissal from the program. Any behavior deemed inconsistent with the goals and objectives of the program, ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ, the Diederich College of Communication or the O’Brien Fellowship, or that otherwise violates any applicable University policy, may result in discipline, up to and including removal from the O’Brien Fellowship indefinitely.

 

Discrimination and harassment: program participants must agree to abide by ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ's policies on non-discrimination and harassment.

 

Appropriate use of Email and Online Resources: You agree to use email, online messaging functions and other online resources at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ only to post, send and receive messages containing material that is appropriate. By way of example, you agree that when using ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵemail, you will not do certain things, including but not limited to the following:

1. Use the messaging functions to distribute or promote spam or any duplicative or        unsolicited messages;

2. Harass, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights of others;

3. Post or distribute any inappropriate or obscene topic, material or information;

4. Harvest or otherwise collect information about others, including phone numbers and email addresses for purposes unrelated to the program;

5. Create a false identity or profile for the purpose of misleading others;

6. Interfere with or disrupt the service or networks connected to the service.

 

Meeting places: To ensure the comfort and safety of student and Fellow participants, in-person meetings between students and Fellows must be held in public or workspaces – conference rooms, coffee shops, classrooms, Fellows’ offices, etc.

 

Transportation safety: If you drive your O’Brien Fellow or student participants in a vehicle, you understand that you assume personal responsibility for the safety of yourself and your passengers. You understand that the University bears no liability for use of personal vehicles. Similarly, the University bears no liability for travel via other modes of transportation (e.g. train or plane).

 

Code of Conduct changes: Although most changes are likely to be minor, ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ and the Diederich College of Communication may change its Code of Conduct for the O’Brien Fellowship from time to time, and in ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ’s sole discretion. The O’Brien Fellowship program encourages participants to frequently check the O’Brien website for any changes to its Code of Conduct for the O’Brien Fellowship program. Your continued participation in the O’Brien Fellowship program after any change in the Code of Conduct will constitute your acceptance of such change.
