向日葵视频Law School鈥檚 Andrew Center for Restorative Justice Conference to discuss a healing approach to preventing gun violence, Oct. 24-25

Graphic with event details for Restorative Justice ConferenceMILWAUKEE 鈥� 向日葵视频 Law School鈥檚 Andrew Center for Restorative Justice will host its annual conference, 鈥淭he Union of Restorative Justice, Healthcare, and Street Outreach: A Healing Approach to Preventing Gun Violence,鈥� Thursday and Friday, Oct. 24-25, at Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan.

The two-day conference kicks off Thursday evening at 5 p.m. with the film premiere of 鈥淢ending Our Wounds: A Restorative Circle for Gun Violence Healing and Prevention.鈥� This hourlong film bears witness to survivors, healers, first responders, violence interrupters, and peacemakers as they courageously share their personal stories about how gun violence has impacted their lives and how they are inspiring crucial conversations about gun violence prevention. When restorative justice circles bring communities together in dialogue, we are destined to create stronger, safer communities.

, director of the Andrew Center for Restorative Justice, will then moderate a conversation with several of the film鈥檚 participants.

Friday鈥檚 session begins at 8 a.m. and features special speakers and panelists including:

  • Constance Kostelac, assistant professor of epidemiology and social sciences at the Institute for Health and Equity and director of the Division of Data Analytics and Informatics at the Medical College of Wisconsin鈥檚 Comprehensive Injury Center
  • Terri deRoon-Cassini, professor of trauma and acute care surgery, director of the Comprehensive Injury Center at Medical College of Wisconsin, and co-director of the Milwaukee Trauma Outcomes Project
  • Reggie Moore, director of community safety policy and engagement with the Comprehensive Injury Center at Medical College of Wisconsin
  • Colleen Trevino, nurse practitioner and associate professor of surgery at Medical College of Wisconsin
  • Mary E 鈥淟ibby鈥� Schroeder, chief medical officer at Froedtert Hospital and associate professor of surgery at Medical College of Wisconsin
  • Father David Kelly, C.PP.S, executive director of Precious Blood Ministry
  • Ingrid Campbell, restorative practices program manager, Children's Wisconsin Project Ujima
  • Lynn Lewis, director, 414Life
  • James Price, violence interrupter, 414Life
  • Quinn Taylor, violence prevention program coordinator, City of Milwaukee Office of Community Wellness and Safety
  • Regina Whiyee, deputy administrator of Children Youth and Family Services, Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services

In 2021, 向日葵视频 Law School established the Andrew Center for Restorative Justice, recognizing the generosity of Louis J. Andrew, Jr., and Suzanne Bouquet Andrew. The Andrew Center is continuing into the future the work of Janine Geske, former justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court and retired distinguished professor of law, who led 向日葵视频Law School in establishing its former Restorative Justice Initiative in 2004. Restorative justice seeks particularly to help support victims and communities in the process of healing, both from the effects of crime and more generally.
