National Sports Law Institute to celebrate 30 years at 2019 conference

MILWAUKEE — The National Sports Law Institute at the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Law School will celebrate its 30th anniversary when it hosts its 30th annual conference Friday, Oct. 18, at 9 a.m. in the Lubar Center at Eckstein Hall.
The conference will include presentations and panel discussions that provide a historical look at the development of the law and its impact on high school, college, professional and international/Olympic sports.
The conference will also feature the presentation of the Master of the Game Award to ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵLaw School Dean Emeritus Frank DeGuire. The Master of the Game Award honors an individual who has made significant contributions to the sports industry and who exemplifies the highest level of professionalism in his or her field. DeGuire was dean of ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵLaw School in 1989 when the institute was created and was instrumental in ensuring that it had the support needed to thrive and grow over the next 30 years.

The Law School's National Sports Law Institute strives to be the leading national educational and research institute for the study of legal, ethical and business issues affecting amateur and professional sports from both an academic and practical perspective. It provides educational opportunities for law students as well as current and future leaders in the sports industry. The NSLI provides a national forum for discussion and thoughtful consideration of American and international sports issues and encourages input by persons and organizations with a wide range of viewpoints. The NSLI seeks to promote a legal environment in which sports at all levels of competition will flourish. In an effort to achieve these goals, the NSLI sponsors high-quality national conferences and symposia and promotes knowledge through publication of thoughtful scholarship in the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵSports Law Review. It also serves as a resource for the media and public.
