Author, Washington Post reporter Goldstein goes 'On the Issues' at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵLaw School

October 12, 2017

MILWAUKEE — Amy Goldstein, author of "Janesville: An American Story," will be the featured guest in an upcoming "On the Issues with Mike Gousha," Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 12:15 p.m. in the Lubar Center at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Law School's Eckstein Hall.

Goldstein has been a reporter for the Washington Post for 30 years, focusing on social policy. She was part of a team of reporters that shared a Pulitzer Prize in 2002. Her 2017 book, "Janesville: An American Story," chronicles the shutdown of the General Motors assembly plant in December 2008, and what happened to the people in the plant's Wisconsin community in the years that followed. As Goldstein reports, the shutdown tested the close-knit community in ways it had never been tested before. For those who lost their jobs, finding new ones wasn't easy. And finding new jobs that paid as well as their old GM jobs was nearly impossible. Goldstein tells the story of Janesville through intimate portrayals of the people she met and came to know. The result, according to the New York Times, is "eye-opening, important, a diligent work of reportage."

Gousha, an award-winning broadcast journalist, is the Law School's distinguished fellow in law and public policy. His "On the Issues" series of conversations with newsmakers supports ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵLaw School's commitment to serve as a modern-day public square for the city of Milwaukee, the state of Wisconsin and beyond.

Through public programming such as the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵLaw School Poll, debates featuring candidates in significant political races, Gousha's "On the Issues" conversations with newsmakers, public lectures by leading scholars and conferences on significant issues of public importance, the Law School serves as the region's leading venue for serious civil discourse about law and public policy matters.

The event is at capacity for members of the general public; registration for a waiting list is available . Members of the media who are interested in attending should contact Chris Jenkins in the Office of Marketing and Communication.
