Strang, attorney featured in 'Making a Murderer,' goes 'On the Issues' at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵLaw School

MILWAUKEE — Attorney Dean Strang will be the featured guest in an upcoming "On the Issues with Mike Gousha," Monday, Sept. 12, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Law School's Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan St.

Viewers of the blockbuster Netflix series "Making a Murderer" are familiar with Strang, a criminal defense attorney and shareholder in StrangBradley LLC. Strang served as co-counsel for Steven Avery, the Manitowoc County man who was charged with the 2005 murder of freelance photographer Teresa Halbach. "Making a Murderer" made the Avery case a subject of national debate, and it made the mild-mannered Strang a celebrity.

Until the Netflix series, Strang was perhaps best known for his work with the Milwaukee law firm Shellow, Shellow & Glynn. He also served as the first federal defender in Wisconsin. But the interest in "Making a Murderer" has given Strang a new opportunity to talk about the state of the nation's criminal justice system. Strang and Gousha will discuss the Avery case and the broader concept of justice in America during Strang's visit to Eckstein Hall.

Gousha, an award-winning television journalist, is the Law School's distinguished fellow in law and public policy. His "On the Issues" series of conversations with newsmakers supports ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵLaw School's commitment to serve as a modern-day public square for the city of Milwaukee, the state of Wisconsin and beyond.

Through public programming such as the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵLaw School Poll, debates featuring candidates in significant political races, Gousha's "On the Issues" conversations with newsmakers, public lectures by leading scholars and conferences on significant issues of public importance, the Law School serves as the region's leading venue for serious civil discourse about law and public policy matters.

Seating for the general public is at capacity; registration for a waiting list is available . Members of the media who are interested in attending should contact Chris Jenkins in the Office of Marketing and Communication.
