向日葵视频welcomes class of 2020

On Wednesday, Aug. 24, more than 2,000 freshmen from 41 states, 22 countries and two U.S. territories will call Milwaukee home when they move into residence halls on the 向日葵视频 campus.

A surge in student demand has led to one of the largest and most diverse populations of incoming freshman ever, with 23 percent of the class comprised of first-generation students and 30 percent of students of color, up from 28 percent a year ago.

Through Saturday, Aug. 27, freshmen will participate in New Student Orientation, including organized activities on campus and throughout Milwaukee.

Wednesday, Aug. 24

The residence hall move-in takes place from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The best photo opportunity is usually at McCormick Hall on the corner of 16th Street and Wisconsin Avenue. Access to rooms in McCormick Hall can be provided by Office of Marketing and Communication staff. Students will also be moving into Cobeen (729 N. 11th St.), O'Donnell (725 N. 18th St.) and Abbottsford (722 N. 11th St.) halls.

Stand-up interviews with university leadership will be available: *

  • Chris Jenkins, associate director of university communication, at 6:30 a.m. (topics include: class demographics and statistics; general university information)
  • Xavier Cole, vice president of student affairs, at 9:30 a.m. (topics include: student safety, new student orientation, campus programming)
  • President Michael R. Lovell, at 10:30 a.m. (President Lovell will be handing out keys to new residents and visit students in their new rooms)

Student interviews: *

  • An RA from the nursing floor in Cobeen Hall, the all-female residence hall, will discuss this unique living/learning community.

Cole will officially welcome the class of 2020 during New Student Convocation at 7 p.m. in the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th St.

Sunday, Aug. 28

The all-university Mass of the Holy Spirit will bring together the entire campus community for the first time this academic year at 6 p.m. at the Church of the Gesu, 1145 W. Wisconsin Ave.
