March 17, 2016

MILWAUKEE — ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵTheatre will present Alice Childress' Wine in the Wilderness at the Evan P. & Marion Helfaer Theatre. The play will be directed by guest artist Marti Gobel and feature current ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵstudents, alumni and a Milwaukee guest actor.

Set during the Harlem race riots of 1964, Wine in the Wilderness deals with treatment of African-American women within their community and the struggle to define true beauty and perfection. When he encounters Tommy, Bill assumes that he's found the perfect example of an ignorant African-American woman, but soon finds her challenging his ideas, beliefs and entire worldview.

  • Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
