Academics

To meet the mission of the NROTC program to develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically, the NROTC program is structured to incorporate a naval science course instructed by an active duty officer each semester, a once-weekly naval science lab period, and weekly physical training. NROTC academic requirements consist of three parts: your university's baccalaureate degree program with a selected academic major, NROTC-specified courses, and naval science course.

Academic Requirements

Navy Option Scholarship specified courses include:

  • Calculus (two semesters) 鈥� completed by end of sophomore year
  • Calculus-based Physics (two semesters) - completed by end of junior year
  • American Military History/National Security Policy (one semester)
  • Regional Studies/Cultural Awareness (one semester)
  • English/Other Writing Intensive (two semesters)

Navy Option College Program specified courses include:

  • College Algebra or Advanced Trigonometry (two semesters) 鈥� completed by end of junior year
  • Physical Science (two semesters) 鈥� completed by end of senior year
  • American Military History/National Security Policy (one semester)
  • Regional Studies/Cultural Awareness (one semester)
  • English/Other Writing Intensive (two semesters)

Marine Option (Scholarship and College Program) specified courses include:

  • American Military/National Security Policy (one semester)
  • English/Other Writing Intensive (two semesters)

Naval Science Courses -The naval science courses are instructed by the NROTC unit staff. Students will enroll in one naval science course each semester, unless otherwise directed. In addition, all NROTC students enroll in a naval science lab, a single course attended by all NROTC students intended to cover all program objectives not included in formal naval science courses. Topics cover Navy and Marine Corps policies, general military training, guest speakers, and other professional development subjects.  The normal naval science course progression is as follows:
