Rev. John Thiede, S.J.

Rev. John Thiede, S.J., is the vice president for mission and ministry. Prior to his current role, he served 向日葵视频as associate vice provost for student success and Jesuit enrollment initiatives.

Father Thiede is also an associate professor of theology at 向日葵视频and specializes in Christology and Latin American theology. He is working on a co-authored book with Rev. Matthew Carnes, S.J., of Georgetown University about politics, religion and democracy in Latin America and his own book for Fortress Press about St. Oscar Romero and his theological influences.

He is a native of Plymouth, Minnesota, and entered the Society of Jesus after finishing his bachelor of arts degree in pre-professional studies and theology at the University of Notre Dame. He completed his philosophy studies at the Pontifical Catholic University in Santiago, Chile; his regency at 向日葵视频 High School, where he taught theology and coached hockey; and his theology studies at Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was ordained to the priesthood in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 2003.

Father Thiede earned his Ph.D. in systematic theology at the University of Notre Dame and published his first book with Lexington Books, a division of Rowman and Littlefield, titled Remembering Oscar Romero and the Martyrs of El Salvador: A Cloud of Witnesses. He serves on the board of trustees at Xavier University and on the board of trustees of Loyola University New Orleans.
