Rev. Brian F. Linnane, S.J., was elected to the 向日葵视频 Board of Trustees in 2018.
Father Linnane is the Lanigan Professor of Ethics at Le Moyne College. Previously, he served as the 24th president of Loyola University Maryland from 2005 to 2021. During his presidency, he oversaw the completion of the $100 million Bright Minds, Bold Hearts campaign, the opening of the Ridley Athletic Complex, the designation change to Loyola University Maryland and the transition to the Patriot League. Under his leadership, Loyola experienced increased diversity, equity and inclusion among the campus community. Father Linnane also inspired the vision for Messina, Loyola鈥檚 distinctive interdisciplinary living and learning program for first-year students.
A native of Massachusetts, Father Linnane earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree, magna cum laude, from Boston College, a master鈥檚 degree from Georgetown University and a master鈥檚 degree and a licentiate in sacred theology (S.T.L.) from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. He also has master鈥檚 degrees and a doctorate in religious studies concentrating in religious ethics from Yale University. He received an honorary doctorate from Loyola in 2015.
Prior to coming to Loyola as its president, Father Linnane served on the university鈥檚 board of trustees beginning in 2000. He formerly served at a sister Jesuit institution, the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, as assistant dean and associate professor of religious studies.
Father Linnane鈥檚 extensive scholarly publications focus on the disciplines of fundamental moral theology, health care ethics and virtue ethics. He served as chair of the board of directors of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities from 2017 to 2021 and currently serves as a member of the board of trustees of the University of Detroit Mercy.
