向日葵视频Advocates & Allies Fact Sheet for Hiring Committees
Welcome to the 向日葵视频 Advocates and Allies (A&A) Men Faculty Gender Equity Initiative and our ongoing gender equity advocacy efforts in academic institutions. |
The objective of A&A is to intentionally involve faculty men in institutional change to transform departmental cultures and practices with respect to issues of gender equity, particularly in units with very few women. This initiative is inspired and adapted from the Advocates and Allies program developed at North Dakota State University (NDSU) as part of their ADVANCE FORWARD NSF grant over 10 years ago. It was created as a signature program designed to improve gender equity through direct and proactive engagement of men faculty. The program has been replicated at more than 20 universities with ADVANCE awards. Based on the premise that men play a central role in deconstructing (and/or perpetuating) gender-inequities, the signature A&A program was designed to support men faculty, in consultation with women faculty, in gender-equity efforts. It includes two essential components: 1) recognizing the implicit and explicit intersectional manifestations of gendered discrimination and 2) effectively and systematically generating individual behaviors and institutional policies that interrupt inequities and foster gender justice. |
Men Allies for Gender Equity Workshop - Featuring:
On November 17 & 18, Advocates & Allies hosted this workshop which helped equip men to serve as effective allies for gender equity in STEM settings. Through interactive dialogue, men from around campus were able to have candid discussions, ask questions and practice skills through scenario-based exercises. Thank you, Dr. Green, for joining us!

In an effort to reach out and collaborate with other Advocates and Allies (A&A) groups, we have created a new emailing list dedicated to discussions of gender equity. This is an emailing list for advocates and allies in ADVANCE or similar programs at US higher education institutions. A&A groups are typically formed by men faculty who work towards addressing gender inequity issues. ADVANCE programs are sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), while similar programs are sponsored by institutions themselves. The objective of this emailing list is to provide a communication and discussion platform for these advocates groups - for the purpose of exchanging ideas and best practices about advocacy and allyship. If you are an advocate or ally who would like to share relevant information or to just receive learning pointers on gender equity, please consider subscribing to the list. Here it is how to subscribe via email:
