How can I benefit from Dissertation Writing Workshop?

The ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Graduate School usually offers two periods of intensive research, reflection and writing each year for doctoral students writing their dissertations.

Comments from previous doctoral students indicate that one of the biggest challenges to completing a dissertation is simply finding dedicated time, absent from distractions and interruptions, to make progress. Our Dissertation Writing Camps provide a dedicated time for students to come together and work toward the completion of their dissertations.

Faculty facilitators are available throughout the week to monitor progress and offer suggestions. Each dissertator is assigned a facilitator with whom they meet.

How long is Dissertation Writing Workshop?

The boot camp runs from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and dismissal at noon on Friday. Dissertation Writing Workshops are typically scheduled in January just prior to the start of second semester or early June. Comments from past Dissertation Writing Workshop attendees indicate the week-long session has cut up to six to twelve months off of the time necessary to complete a dissertation, and in some cases students have said that they would not have completed their dissertation if not for the writing workshop

Make connections with fellow doctoral students

An additional benefit to participating in the writing workshop is making connections with other ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵdoctoral students from various academic disciplines. Many current and prior students have indicated that writing a dissertation is often accompanied by a sense of isolation. Dissertation Writing Workshop provides an opportunity to meet others, work side by side with them, and establish a sense of community.

Participation is limited depending on the number of faculty members that are available to serve as facilitators. Once the Dissertation Writing Workshop is announced, interested students are encouraged to sign up as early as possible.
