Whether you're a first-generation college student or a freshman in a new leadership role, Saul will inspire students to overcome their personal barriers to live up to their fullest potential.

It's widely known that extreme weather conditions disproportionately harm people in lower-income areas, but it's chilling to see the laser precision with which this happens. In examining the 1995 Chicago heat disaster, Peabody Award-winning filmaker Judith Helfand looks at exactly why and how a zip code can turn into a death sentence in a major Midwestern city. Helfand connects the dots between economic disparity, climate change, and racial segregation, finding an often-deadly link between them.

For Indigenous people for time immemorial, education was intricately woven through every aspect of their daily lives. Access to these life affirming teachings was only a matter of being a part of family and community. Outside of these communities, education was a much more formalized endeavor and continues to grow in complexity. The consequence for Indigenous youth was inequitable access to higher education.

True to its mission, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ eased that door open for two Wisconsin tribal members. In celebration of its 50th year at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ, Mr. Robin Carufel (who was part of the 1973-74 EOP cohort) and Sir Lawrence Tender (who is a current EOP student and McNair Scholar) will share their respective inspirational journeys to and through college.

The Educational Opportunity Program's 50th anniversary celebration continues during Mission Week in February with a panel discussion moderated by . Hear panelists the , Arts '82, Law '88; Rev. Ryan Duns, S.J.; , Arts '70, Law '79; George Thompson, III, SP '69, as they share their stories - some from the perspective of history and others from the perspective of the program's impact on their lives. In the spirit of gratitude, we have the opportunity to appreciate the roles of the courageous leaders who came together at a pivotal moment to help frame what's important for ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵto consider over the next 50 years - particularly its commitment to Milwaukee's first - generation college students.
