Writing-Intensive English Minor
Overview
Writing is key to who we are and all we do. Study how your writing works and how you work as a writer. Take courses in creative writing, workplace writing, and public writing as well as literature. You will graduate ready to write for the rest of your life.
A wide variety of courses are offered in the following areas:
- literature
- composition
- creative writing
- professional and technical writing
- journalistic writing and magazine editing
- peer tutoring in the Ott Memorial Writing Center
- internships with local arts groups, schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations
Minor Requirements
- Requires 18 credit hours
- Critical Practices and Processes in Literary Studies: ENGL 3000
- Writing Practices and Processes: ENGL 3210
- 1 literature elective (any ENGL 2xxx, 3xxx, or 4xxx course that is not a writing or language study course)
- 3 writing electives: 32xx, 42xx (and 49xx, if in writing)
One elective can be chosen from the following:

- ENGL 4130 History of the English Language
- ENGL 4170 Studies in Language
- DGMD 4345 Advanced Scriptwriting

- JOUR 4200 Publications Editing
- JOUR 4360 Freelance Writing

- JOUR 4510 Magazine Editing
NOTE:
For Writing-Intensive English minors taking Journalism courses who are not also Journalism majors, ENGL 3210 is required first.
