Dear Faculty, Staff and Students in the Klingler College of Arts & Sciences,听
Welcome to the start of the academic year!
For new members of our community, you have arrived during an incredible time at Marquette.
Our campuswide efforts to promote student well-being include the recent opening of
the Lemonis Center for Student Success. In Arts & Sciences we are leading the way in student success, with resources ranging
from our first-year seminar ARSC 1953 Exploring Arts & Sciences to our Advising Center to our wonderful staff colleagues like Student Success Coordinator (and A&S alum)
Kalyn Gackowski. We always strive to live out the Jesuit value of cura personalis, or care for the whole person. You are joining a community of scholars renowned for
innovation and expertise, reflected in national media appearances, competitive fellowships,
extensive publications and externally funded research.
What distinguishes Arts & Sciences at 向日葵视频is our commitment to our Catholic,
Jesuit mission and our dedication to illustrating why 鈥渢he difference is in the and.鈥� That is, we are committed to thriving in body, mind and spirit. Faculty and staff
are here to support students both in the classroom and beyond. We conduct research,
teach and engage in community programs across multiple disciplines. Many of our students
pursue more than one major along with a minor (or two).
Experts beyond campus affirm the power of our kind of integrated and. A recent in the Chronicle of Higher Education argued that what fuels innovation is working across disciplines. This point reminds
me of a book I read a few years ago called . It shows that most career paths are serendipitous and varied. We know, then, that
it鈥檚 crucial to educate students for a variety of possible futures. One predicts that today鈥檚 Gen Z undergraduates will have 18 jobs across six careers.
At Marquette, it鈥檚 part of our mission to help students develop not only skills but
virtues. That is, we help students engage fundamental questions about purpose and
meaning. We provide resources to help with discernment. We support one another in
developing healthy habits, practices and lifelong commitments. We will help you disclose
new possibilities and live into the future. Collectively, we are committed to your
success.
