Jennifer Maney is the director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ. Her role is to best support the pedagogical practices of all faculty/instructors and also support them with the infusion of Ignatian pedagogy into their teaching. She is also responsible for helping to build inclusive, equitable and justice-focused learning experiences in the classroom by helping faculty think of their implicit biases and could impact a welcoming environment for all students. Service Learning also reports to the CTL in support of faculty and community engagement in an academic environment.

Prior to this position she was responsible for the coordination for the Greater Milwaukee Catholic Education Consortium. The GMCEC was a collaborative effort between Alverno College, Mount Mary College, Cardinal Stritch University, Marian University and ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ, who joined forces to support Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.  The combined power of the GMCEC was be tapped to keep area P-12 Catholic education not only alive but vibrant. 

Prior to the position with the GMCEC, Maney was the Director of Career Development at Carroll University. In addition, she has experience directing a federal grant at the Milwaukee Area Technical College, helping to create the first bi-lingual early childhood credential program in the state of Wisconsin.  Maney has a doctorate in Educational Policy and Leadership with a minor in diversity education, a master’s in counseling, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She is also an adjunct faculty member for Mount Mary College where she teaches both undergraduate and graduate students in the area of inclusionary practices in the classroom and is an adjunct professor at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵwhere she teaches first year students. She serves on the board of St. Joan Antida High School and served on the editorial board of Conversations on Jesuit Education from 2020-2023. She also sits on multiple ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵacademic and mission committees. Jennifer won the 2023 Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion award for ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ and serves at the co-chair of Marquette’s LGBTQ Employee Resource Group.

Melissa Shew

Melissa Shew (PhD, Philosophy) is Associate Director of Teaching Excellence in the Center for Teaching and Learning. In this role, she advises and oversees all units on campus related to teaching and learning with special attention to developing communities of practice, directing the Faculty Fellows program, encouraging and highlighting high-impact teaching practices, and cultivating the scholarship of teaching and learning at Marquette. She coaches participating (nontenure-track) faculty, graduate students, and tenure stream faculty in all departments to be who they need to be in the classroom.

Melissa’s own scholarly work lies in the history of philosophy, feminist philosophy, philosophy of education, and issues related to women at work. Most recently, she edited   and  gave a TEDx Talk on  , and wrote a white paper (Spring 2023) called The Power of Intellectual Joy for the Future of Women at Work (Spring 2023; corresponding workbook can be found here). She also serves as Faculty Director for Marquette’ Executive MBA Program.

John moved from Madison to Milwaukee to join the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵcommunity in 2014. He has 17 years of experience in video production and over 10 years of experience in news production. Enjoying creative and challenging video projects as well as meeting new and interesting people, John happily accepted his position at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵfeeling it balanced his professional interests and faith. He graduated from MATC, Milwaukee campus, with a degree in television and video production and enjoys movies, rock climbing, and working on his house when he has free time. John feels fortunate to be able to do what he loves everyday.​​​

Dan Freer

Daniel Freer is an Instructional Designer at the Department of Digital Learning. He comes to ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵfrom Michigan State University, where he was as an Educational Technology Specialist in the College of Education's Design Studio. There, he worked with research faculty to help facilitate the implementation of D2L and other new technologies in their classrooms. In addition, at Michigan State University he consulted with faculty one-on-one on how best to use educational technology to meet their learning goals. Dr. Freer has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Education, both online and face-to-face. His research focuses on cognitive development as it relates to students' learning of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Dan provides consultation on course design and the implementation of educational technology in the classroom. He is available for one-on-one meetings to help facilitate the course design process for online, blended, and traditional courses.

Dr. Freer received a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Educational Technology from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Indiana University.

Kathy Auchter

Kathy Auchter is an Instructional Designer for ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ in the Department of Digital Learning. Kathy enjoys collaborating with faculty and the design team to develop rigorous and meaningful online courses that support authentic learning outcomes in a timely manner. Additionally, Kathy’s role includes developing and hosting faculty development sessions.

Combined Kathy has nearly twenty years of teaching and instructional design experience. Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Community Education from UW-Milwaukee, Kathy served one term in AmeriCorps in the Urban Education Fellowship Program while earning her Master’s degree in Education from Alverno College. During her AmeriCorps service and beyond, Kathy taught middle school students English and religion. Kathy earned a Professional Certificate in Online Education from UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies. She developed computer-based course training for a host of Microsoft Office Suite products for large corporations. Most recently prior to joining MU, Kathy served as an Instructional Designer at Concordia University where she enjoyed collaborating with faculty and administrators in the Office of Continuing and Distance Education developing comprehensive online courses in graduate education programs.

Janna Wrench

Janna Wrench is an Instructional Designer for the Department of Digital Learning at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ.  She enjoys working with faculty one-on-one to develop their courses in multiple modalities to free up the learning experience.  Taking the traditional course and exploring new ways of authentic learning and assessment, Janna works with faculty to reimagine their courses for the best possible outcomes for the learners utilizing instructional technology.

Janna is a ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵalumna three times over, holding a bachelor’s degree in history and education, a master’s degree in Nineteenth Century history, and doctoral work in educational policy and leadership. She has almost 20 years of teaching experience at the high school and college level, and over 10 years of instructional design work. She is an adjunct associate professor of writing and humanities at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design as well. Janna has created and facilitated a wide range of faculty development programs for the Center for Teaching and Learning over the last 10 years revolving around online learning and educational technology.

Lisa Chase

The College of Engineering welcomes an instructional designer who returns to Wisconsin from Montana State University-Billings. This professional recognizes the valuable contributions faculty make through their curriculum development and individualized approaches within the D2L learning management system. The instructional designer collaborates with faculty to reimagine their D2L courses, assessments, and instructional techniques, further enhancing the existing high-quality curriculum.

A UW-Eau Claire alumnus, Lisa holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in history, with a specialization in Native American studies. Seeking further professional development, they pursued additional education, obtaining a master's degree in education from St. Catherine's University in St. Paul, MN. In Spring 2024, they completed a Doctor of Education through Hamline University, also in St. Paul, MN. The instructional designer brings a diverse range of teaching experience from both K-12 and higher education settings to their new role at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ.

Emily joined the Department of Digital Learning after 12 years experience in advertising agencies. She is designer of branding, identity, advertising, web and digital, and interactive spaces. She is excited to bring this knowledge to ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵand use it to design more visually engaging online experiences for students and faculty. Emily has a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from the University of Wisconsin - Stout.

 

Kim Jensen Bohat

Professionally, Kim has been with the Program since 2001, but she also participated in Service Learning as a service learning student, a student employee, a site contact, and a service learning faculty member.

Kim has a bachelor's degree in Social Work, and master's degree in Education with a concentration Leadership and Policy, both from Marquette. In addition to her role in Service Learning, Kim is a part-time faculty member in the Department of Social and Cultural Sciences, and teaches Introduction to Social Welfare and Justice.

Her current areas of interest include student reflection, faculty development, community-based research, social justice education, service learning as high impact practice, community-university partnership, community-impact assessment, and student leadership development.

Heriberto Godina Jr.

Eddie is a double graduate from Marquette, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Criminology & Law Studies in 2017 and his master’s degree in History in 2021. 

Service has impacted Eddie’s career in a variety of ways. As an undergraduate student, he was involved in multiple service oriented opportunities and participated in Service Learning as a service learning student. 

After graduating with his bachelor’s degree, Eddie joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and, as part of his assignment, was sent to Albuquerque, New Mexico to work as a paralegal for the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center. After JVC, Eddie worked as a paralegal for the National Immigrant Justice Center in Chicago before returning to Milwaukee for his graduate studies.

Peggy Mead

Peggy is located within the Service Learning Program, assisting with administrative support there and the Center for Teaching and Learning whenever needed. At the same time, she is the administrative support for the Trinity Fellows Program.

She enjoys planning special events, reflections and interacting with the graduate and undergraduate students. Prior to working at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵshe was employed at the Milwaukee Art Museum and Very Special Arts of Wisconsin for many years. She holds a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Rebecca Nowacek

Rebecca Nowacek is an associate professor in the Department of English, where she’s been on faculty since 2001. She serves as Director of the Ott Memorial Writing Center and Director of Marquette’s Course Embedded Tutors program; she also serves as the PI of Marquette’s W.R.I.T.E. (Writing and Research Integrative Tutor
Experience) Fellows program, a Mellon-funded undergraduate research initiative.

Her research focuses on transfer of learning and writing in the disciplines. She is the author of  Agents of Integration: Understanding Transfer as a Rhetorical Act (2011), and the co-editor of Citizenship Across the Curriculum (2010) and Literacy, Economy, and Power (2014). Her work has also appeared in College Composition and Communication, College English, and Research in the Teaching of English. Her chapter in Naming What We Know, co-authored with Brad Hughes, received the International Writing Centers Association Outstanding Article award.

Rebecca was the 2012 recipient of Marquette's Robert and Mary Gettel Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence and the 2011 recipient of the College of Arts and Sciences Excellence in Faculty Advising Award.  She was also a 2005-06 Carnegie Scholar with the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Jenn Fishman

Jenn is a teacher and scholar of rhetoric and composition/writing studies. A member of the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵfaculty since 2011, she is the former Director of the First-Year English Program and co-founder of the Writing Innovation Symposium. She is also a 2018-2019 Faculty Civic Dialogues Fellow.

Jenn's published scholarship includes more than a dozen peer-reviewed articles and book chapters; the Research Exchange Index (REx), which is a scholarly database for writing research (2016); and special issues of CCC Online (2012), Peitho (2015), and Community Literacy Journal (forthcoming, 2018). She is the Principal Investigator of 3 grant-supported research projects and the recipient of the 2006 Richard Braddock Award. Her current projects center longitudinal and undergraduate research as well as community writing.

Over the course of her career, Jenn has contributed extensive national professional leadership. She was elected President of the Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition, and she is the founding Co-Chair of the CCCC Committee on Undergraduate Research. She also serves on the inaugural boards of Literacy in Composition Studies and the Coalition of Community Writing (CCW).  In these roles, as in the classroom and her scholarship, her modus operandi is to make available meaningful opportunities for others, and she looks forward to doing the same through her work in the Ott Memorial Writing Center.

Hi, my name is Courtney! I graduated from ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵin 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare & Justice and Criminology & Law Studies. I completed a master’s degree in Social Work from UW-Milwaukee in 2021.

My path to serve others started as a student staff manager in Marquette’s Service-Learning Office. As a student and beyond I’ve had opportunities to work for communities throughout the Milwaukee area including the Sixteenth Street Health Clinic, Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists, and the Institute for Child and Family Well-Being. I wanted to make a return to higher education, which led me to the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion and now to the Center for Teaching and Learning. Overall, I enjoy working with campus partners for the purpose of creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.

In my spare time, I enjoy crafting, baking, and spending time with friends and family. I would like to learn how to crochet soon! I’m grateful to join such an impressive team and contribute to the work being done by the CTL.
