The ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵAHPRC Student Research Initiative is designed to facilitate undergraduate research from different colleges across campus and support the mission and global goal of the AHPRC.
AHPRC Mission: A leading center facilitating collaborative and innovative research in athletic, healthy and clinical populations to advance knowledge and reach beyond boundaries to optimize human performance while training the next generation of basic and applied scientists.
A global goal of the AHPRC is to facilitate interdisciplinary, collaborative, and innovative research to understand and enhance performance in athletic, healthy, and clinical populations across the lifespan while providing educational and training opportunities for the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵcommunity.

ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ the 2024-25 SRI
- Undergraduate students (juniors and seniors) who are interested in a funded research opportunity during the academic year (2024-2025) are encouraged to apply to the Student Research Initiative program sponsored by the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center (AHPRC). Each student applicant must have an active and involved research mentor. The proposal aims must fit within the global mission and goals of the AHPRC. More detail on the goals and aims of the AHPRC can be found on the website. Awardees will receive up to $5,000 for the academic year.
Expectations of the Student
- Dedicate ~10 hours per week during both the fall and spring semesters.
- Advised by faculty mentor: Work closely with your faculty mentor and their research group.
- Participate in monthly research meetings and seminars.
- Attend AHPRC seminar series (3-4 per semester).
- Attend SRI program meetings.
- Final Poster or Oral Presentation
- At ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ(AHPRC- sponsored or other research event) OR
- At external research conference (local or national event)
- Work with your mentor to present your research at a professional conference related to your field of study.
How to Apply
- Two-to-three-page application to include:
- Title page (page 1) with student and faculty name, department, college, student GPA, project title and a three-four sentence summary of global goals of the project and how they fit within the mission of the AHPRC.
- Project/protocol Description (pages 2-3): describe the goal(s) of the research project and what will be accomplished. In the description provide (1) a rationale for the importance and significance of the work, and (2) the projected outcomes of your research aims and how your team will achieve your research aims over the academic year. (No more than two pages).
- A brief student statement describing how participation in the AHPRC SRI program will help the student achieve their career or academic goals (no more than ½ page on page 4).
- Supporting letter from the faculty mentor showing availability, commitment, and appropriate expertise to work with the student on the proposed research program/study.
- Student resume: 1–2-page student resume including GPA, relevant practical experience, etc
- Send the application via email as a pdf document to Mike Haischer at Michael.Haischer@marquette.edu by Thursday, September 7th, 2024 (4pm).
Program Timeline
- Final proposal due: Thursday, September 7th, 2023
- Notice of award: Tuesday, September 19th, 2023
- Program Start Date: Monday, September 25th, 2023
- Program End Date: Friday, April 26th, 2024
Selection
- Proposals will be reviewed, and awardees notified by Tuesday September 19th, 2023.
- Selection will be based on the faculty-student team’s complete submission of the requirements, application, and alignment with the mission of the AHPRC.
