Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Award Recipients

Distinguished Alumna of the Year Award

Anne HannekenDr. Anne M. Hanneken, Arts '78
La Jolla, Calif.

Before there was women’s tennis at Marquette, there was Anne. Now a vitreoretinal surgeon and an associate professor of Molecular and Experimental Medicine at The Scripps Research Institute, she was the second woman in the university’s athletic history to earn a varsity letter.


Lifetime Achievement Award

Thomas BraatzThomas M. Braatz, Arts '58
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

You can’t think ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵfootball and not think of Tom. One of the program’s last players, he went on to a pro football career that spanned almost 50 years as a player and executive and was named to the NFL Scouts Hall of Fame.


Young Alumna of the Year Award

Kareeda Chones-AguamKareeda Chones-Aguam, Comm '98
Menomonee Falls, Wis.

Kareeda has lived and breathed basketball her entire life — from being the daughter of a professional player to her career on Marquette’s women’s basketball team to her position today as vice president of business strategy and activation for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Racine, Wis.

Mike’s ties to ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵand the athletics department run deep. As a student, he was an eight-time letter winner and captain of the intercollegiate track and cross country teams his senior year. Since graduation, Mike has remained a loyal ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵmen’s and women’s basketball season ticket holder and has served on the board of the directors for both the M Club and Track Club.

 

Robert L. and William P. McCahill Award

Charles LyonCharles J. Lyon, H Sci '14
St. Charles, Ill.

Charlie is living out his childhood dream: playing as a professional goalkeeper for Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders, a path he shaped while leading the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵmen’s team to consecutive NCAA title appearances.
