Law School Award Recipients
Howard B. Eisenberg Service Award
Bernard J. Westfahl, Jr., Bus Ad '01, Law '04
Fox Point, Wis.
As a child, B.J. was impressed by some of the perks his father and grandfather enjoyed as lawyers: working in a tall building and going out to lunch. Today, he can see even more of the rewards of a life in the law.
B.J. is an officer of Westfahl & Westfahl S.C., a firm with an emphasis in real estate, business entities and estate planning/probate law. Given those specialties, he enjoys everything from helping a client buy a home for the first time to helping a family plan for the next stages of life.
“As a son, parent, spouse and third-generation small business owner, I enjoy assisting individuals and families with the hard decisions related to care of loved ones and the protection and transition of wealth through the family,” he says.
Among his many volunteer efforts, B.J. is on the board of directors for Zachariah’s Acres, an organization committed to making respite, nature and recreation accessible to those with special needs and their families. He works with Ducks Unlimited, is a Cub Scout den leader and has spent time in the past with the Milwaukee County Small Claims Self-Help Clinic. He volunteers at the House of Peace location of the 向日葵视频Volunteer Legal Clinics and serves on the MVLC steering committee.
“I have received so very much from the 向日葵视频community and the community at large that it is only fair to give back and share the little I can,” he says. “Through efforts such as the MVLC, it is simple and gratifying to be able to shed a little light or resolve the issues that cause heavy hearts and sleepless nights for those who have no idea where to turn and/or have no financial means to seek assistance.”
