Accelerated Degree Program in Master of Science in Finance
MSF Accelerated Degree Program Preparation
MATH, STAT and INDS majors are well-prepared for the quantitative curriculum within the MS in Finance (MSF) and the in-demand careers in finance fields. Students with an interest in finance are encouraged to consider the MS in Finance Accelerated Degree Program pathway.
Pursuing the MSF includes three steps:
- Completing preparation courses
- Pursuing graduate-level courses
- before completing your undergraduate degree – applying during the junior year is recommended.
Preparation Courses
Students will need preparation in accounting, economics and finance. A summary of course options is provided below. Students are eligible to apply for the MSF ADP after completing preparation courses covering at least two of the preparation areas in accounting, finance and economics. Reviewing a student’s grades in these areas provides helpful insight about the student’s readiness for success within the MSF.

BUAD 2100 - Accounting and Finance Fundamentals for Non-Business Majors (3 credits).
Often offered fall, spring and summer.
ECON 1001 - Introduction to Economics (3 credits).
Often offered fall, spring and summer.
MBA 6040 - Business Essentials Accounting (1.5 credits).
Offered online fall, spring and summer.
MBA 6050 - Business Essentials Economics (1.5 credits).
Offered online fall, spring and summer.
MBA 6060 - Business Essentials Finance (1.5 credits).
Offered online fall, spring and summer.
Graduate-Level Courses
Undergraduate students may double-count a maximum of 12 credits toward undergraduate degree requirements the MS in Finance degree. A minimum grade of B is required for graduate level courses taken as an undergraduate student for credit to apply toward graduate program requirements. Graduate-level finance courses may count toward a math student’s open elective undergraduate requirement. Recommended courses for graduate study are:
- Advanced Financial Management
- Offered online in fall through MSF 6500 (3 credits).
- Offered on-campus in fall and spring through FINA 5001 (3 credits).
- Investments
- Offered online in spring through MSF 6511 (3 credits)
- Offered on-campus in fall and spring through FINA 5011 (3 credits)
- Managerial Accounting for Decision Making, ACCO 6200, online in fall (3 credits)
- Financial Econometrics, MSF 6520, online in fall (3 credits)
Requesting Graduate Course Enrollment
Undergraduate students with junior or senior standing may use to request permission to enroll in graduate business courses.
