History: Sacred Heart-St. Louis Church, Gervais, Marion County, Oregon, has been a predominantly non-Native American parish in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon (Archives: Redmond, Oregon). Sacred Heart-St. Louis was formed by the merger of two local parishes, one of which was Sacred Heart Church. Portland archdiocesan priests, who administered Sacred Heart, had attended to students at the Chemawa Government Indian School (e.g. Chinook, Klamath, Grand Ronde, Siletz), Salem, Oregon, 1950-1964 (transferred to Franciscans (Santa Barbara Province) (Archives: Santa Barbara, California).
